A free alternative to Jobscan
Who wrote this: CVLoom — we compete with Jobscan, so read accordingly. Everything we say about them is deliberately conservative and checkable against their own site; everything we say about us is exact.
Jobscan built this category: paste a job description, scan your resume, get a match rate. The differences worth your attention are what costs money, what they will show you about the scoring, and what happens to your file afterwards.
What Jobscan does
Jobscan's core is the match-rate scan — your resume against a specific job posting — plus LinkedIn optimization and cover-letter tooling on paid plans. As of this writing their free tier allows a handful of scans per month; unlimited scanning and the deeper features sit behind a subscription (their pricing page has current numbers).

Competitor details are as of this writing and simplified — pricing and tiers change; their site is the source of truth. Our column is exact.
What the subscription buys you
- •Scans past the monthly free allowance — the meter is the product.
- •Application tracking and LinkedIn optimisation tooling, which we do not build.
- •A match rate calculated by a method they do not publish, so you take the number on trust.
Where CVLoom fits
- ✓The 30-rule check is unlimited and free — no monthly scan meter. Checking should be free and simple.
- ✓Every rule we score against is published in full at /ats-rules. A match rate you can't audit is a number you take on faith; ours you can argue with.
- ✓Nothing is stored: your PDF is parsed in memory and discarded. No account exists to attach it to.
- ✓Checking a resume against a pasted job description (match reading, evidence-quoted requirements, missing keywords) is built in — in Beta, sharing the free daily AI allowance.
- ✓The builder side is free to the end: 585+ templates in 27 categories, every one showing its published ATS score, no watermark, no paywalled download.
- ✓That includes depth where it is usually missing: ten teacher and tutor templates, seven certified with the flagships at 92–94, and a written teacher resume guide behind them.
The one-sentence version: CVLoom is a free ATS resume checker that publishes its full 30-rule checklist — you see every rule it scores you against, with no signup and nothing stored.
Common questions
Is Jobscan free?
Partly. Jobscan has a free tier behind an account with a small monthly allowance of scans — the meter is the product. Scans beyond that, plus the application-tracking and LinkedIn tooling, sit behind the subscription. CVLoom's 30-rule check is free, unlimited and signup-free; only the AI JD match (Beta) shares a five-a-day allowance.
Is CVLoom a full Jobscan replacement?
For scoring a resume and matching it to a job description — yes, and free. Jobscan also does application tracking and LinkedIn optimisation, which we do not build at all. If those are your workflow, that is what their subscription is for.
Why is CVLoom's checker unlimited when Jobscan meters scans?
Because checking a resume should be free and unlimited — that is the point of the product. Only the AI features (deep scan, JD match, letter drafting) share a fair-use cap of five runs a day.
Does the JD match work like Jobscan's match rate?
Similar goal, different posture: you get a match score plus each JD requirement judged met/partial/missing with a verbatim quote from your resume as evidence — so you can audit every verdict. It's in Beta.
Run one resume through both and compare what you are told. Ours is free, unlimited, and shows you every rule behind the number — that comparison costs you nothing but the ten minutes.
585+ templates — each showing the ATS score it earned — a real PDF at the end, and a 30-rule check that shows you every rule. Free, no signup.
