Free cover letter templates
Your cover letter inherits your resume's template: the same fonts, the same accent colour, the same page size and the same header, so the two read as one application instead of a letter bolted on. Write it yourself or let the AI writer draft it from a job posting, using your resume as the only source. No signup, no watermark, free to download.

Centered serif masthead over a hairline rule — pairs with the Classic ATS resume.

Bold left masthead with an accent bar — clean sans for modern applications.
Matched to your resume, in one click
Open any resume in the editor and press Matching cover letter. The letter is created with that resume's fonts, accent colour, spacing, page size and header line already in place. Serif resumes get the centred serif masthead; everything else gets the accent-bar letter. Change the resume's colour later and the letter is one template switch away from matching again.
Starting from scratch? Pick either template below; the header, fonts and colours are yours to set, and the AI writer works the same way. Open my documents
Let AI write the first draft
Open any cover letter and click Write with AI. Paste the job posting, optionally pick one of your saved resumes, and you get a complete draft — recipient block, salutation, body paragraphs, and sign-off — applied in one step you can undo.
The part that matters: when you select a resume, that resume is the only permitted source of claims about you. The AI rephrases achievements you actually have to match the language of the posting; it does not invent employers, titles, or numbers. Without a resume it writes the structure and marks the specifics for you to fill in, rather than making something up.
It's in Beta and uses one of your five free daily AI runs. Everything it writes stays fully editable — click any line and type.
What makes a cover letter worth reading
- 1.Name the role and company in the first sentence. A letter that could have been sent to anyone reads like it was.
- 2.Prove one or two things, with numbers. Not “I'm a strong communicator” — what you shipped, how much it moved, over what period.
- 3.Answer “why us” honestly. One specific line about this company beats a paragraph of enthusiasm.
- 4.Stay under a page. Three or four short paragraphs. Nobody has ever complained that a cover letter was too easy to read.
The letter is the easy half. If the resume it accompanies can't be parsed, none of this matters — check your resume against the 30 ATS rules first.
Common questions
Are these cover letter templates really free?
Yes — every template, the editor, and PDF export are free with no watermark and no account required. There is no paid tier to upgrade to.
Can AI write my cover letter for me?
Yes. Paste the job description and the AI writer drafts the letter. If you pick one of your saved resumes, every claim in the draft comes from that resume — it rephrases your real achievements to match the posting rather than inventing experience. It's in Beta, uses one of your five free daily AI runs, and everything it produces stays editable.
Should a cover letter be ATS-friendly too?
Usually it matters less than the resume — many systems store the letter as an attachment rather than parsing it into fields. Both templates here are single-column with real selectable text anyway, so they read cleanly either way.
How long should a cover letter be?
Three to four short paragraphs, under one page. Recruiters skim: name the role, prove one or two relevant results with specifics, say why this company, and ask for a conversation. The AI writer is capped at 280 words for exactly this reason.
How does the letter match my resume?
Press Matching cover letter inside any resume. The letter is created with that resume's fonts, accent colour, spacing, page size and header line, and the AI writer defaults to that resume as its only source of claims. You can also start from either template below and set the same fonts and colours yourself.
