Teacher resume guide: format, examples, and what principals shortlist
A principal shortlisting for a teaching post reads each resume for less than a minute and looks for three things: can you run a classroom, do your students improve, and are your credentials in order. This guide shows how to put those three answers where they cannot be missed — with real before/after bullets by subject and grade, and free templates built for teaching roles.

The format that works
- 1.Profile (2–3 lines): years, levels and boards taught, and your one strongest proof — “Primary educator, 6 years across public-school classrooms; raised section math averages 13 points.”
- 2.Teaching experience, newest first: grades and subjects in the role title, school name, then 2–4 outcome bullets each (examples below).
- 3.Education and certifications in separate, labeled sections: M.Ed and degrees under Education; Praxis II/state TET, NISHTHA modules, FLN training, first aid under Certifications. If the posting demands Praxis II, put “Praxis II Qualified” in your title line too.
- 4.Single column for portals. Two-column designs are fine when a human reads first — but parsing software reads columns wrongly often enough that we measured it. For school-chain portals and job sites, single column is the safe answer.
Teacher resume examples: duties rewritten as outcomes

What is the best resume format for a teacher in India?
Single column, reverse-chronological, 1–2 pages. Lead with a short profile, then teaching experience with outcome bullets, then education and certifications (M.Ed, Praxis II/state TET, NISHTHA modules) in their own section so they are impossible to miss. Two-column designs are fine when a human reads first — for school portals and job sites, single column parses most reliably.
Should Praxis II and M.Ed go at the top of a teacher resume?
They should be findable in five seconds. If a posting explicitly requires Praxis II or a state TET, name it in your title line ('Primary Teacher · State-licensed') and keep the full details in a certifications section. M.Ed sits in education; recent training (NISHTHA, FLN) shows currency.
How do I show results if my school never shared score data?
Use the numbers you do own: class sizes, sections handled, attendance at events you ran, students moved up a reading level on your tracker, parent-meeting participation. 'Class teacher for 32 students across two sections' is still evidence — vague duties are not.
How long should a teacher resume be?
One page under ~8 years of experience; two pages once you have department-level work, multiple schools, or coordinator roles. Never pad — a principal shortlists in under a minute.
