LLB fresher resume format

LLB and BA LLB

Chambers and firms read a law graduate's resume for usefulness: internships that produced drafts and research notes, moots that reached finals, a clinic caseload. This format presents them in that order and states the bar council enrolment where a senior looks for it.

What to write when you have no job yet

A fresher resume is not empty; it is built from different material. For a LLB, the material is this, each line with a number:

  • Internships with counts: research notes drafted, hearings attended, documents proofed.
  • Moots with the round reached and the field size.
  • Legal aid clinic work with queries handled and letters drafted.
  • Law society or journal roles with an event or an issue published.

Skills, with the proof that makes each one credible

A skill you cannot defend in the interview is worse than one you leave off. Each of these is listed with what proves it.

Legal research
Manupatra, SCC Online or Westlaw with notes that were used in a matter.
Drafting
Notices, agreements or applications drafted, counted.
Advocacy
Moot results and hearings attended.
Client interviewing
Clinic queries handled under supervision.
Court procedure
Filing checklists or cause-list tracking you maintained.

The Indian details other builders skip

Marksheets, objectives, the declaration block, the credential a shortlist is actually built on. For a LLB:

CGPA or percentage
Print CGPA or percentage as the university reports it, plus the rank if it is top ten: "BA LLB (Hons), CGPA 7.9/10". Law firms read it; chambers read the internships.
The career objective
“BA LLB graduate with two chambers internships, a City firm vacation scheme, two national moot finals and a legal aid clinic caseload, seeking a junior advocate or legal associate position.”
The credential that gates the shortlist
Bar Council enrolment is the credential to practise; state "enrolment applied for" or the number in the header, and the All India Bar Examination once cleared. For firms, a corporate law or contract drafting certificate with the year.
What to leave off
Leave off father's name, date of birth, marital status, religion, caste, nationality and a photo unless the posting asks for one. None of it helps a shortlist and some of it invites bias. Drop the declaration block and the signature line too: a PDF sent from your own email is already yours. Keep the page to name, phone, email, city and one link.
Campus drive or off-campus
For a campus drive, lead with the degree, marks and projects; the recruiter is comparing you to classmates and reads the page in twenty seconds. For an off-campus or Naukri application, move the internship and the role-specific skills up, match the posting's words, and set your Naukri headline to the role you want, not the degree you hold. The free Naukri profile maker writes that headline from this resume.

Common questions

Do internships go under experience?

Yes, as the first section. Each is a job of a few weeks with real output; the reader treats it that way.

Should I list every moot?

The best two or three with the round reached and the field size. A list of twelve participations reads as padding.
