ECE fresher resume format

B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering

ECE graduates land in three places: embedded firmware, testing and telecom, or straight into software. The resume has to say which one in the header and prove it with hardware you brought up or tests you automated. This format does that and keeps the software projects visible for the fourth door.

Summary

B.Tech ECE graduate (2026, 8.7 CGPA) with an embedded-systems internship and a telecom testing internship. Wrote firmware for an STM32 sensor node deployed on 20 units, automated 300 test cases in Python for a 4G module, and won the state-level IoT hackathon. Seeking a graduate engineer trainee, embedded or testing engineer role.

Experience
Embedded Systems InternAroha Electronics2026 – 2026
  • Wrote STM32 firmware in C for a temperature and vibration sensor node deployed on 20 units at a client plant
  • Cut the node's sleep current from 9 mA to 1.2 mA by reworking the power states, doubling battery life
  • Designed a 2-layer PCB in KiCad and brought up the first 5 boards with no rework
  • Wrote the UART and I2C driver tests that caught 3 timing bugs before the field trial
Testing InternNetcore Telematics2025 – 2025
  • Automated 300 regression test cases in Python for a 4G IoT module; the nightly run replaced two days of manual testing
  • Tracked and reproduced 45 defects with signal traces, 40 of them fixed before release
Team Lead, IoT HackathonCochin University of Science and Technology2025 – 2025
  • Led a 4-member team to first place of 60 teams with a flood-warning node on LoRa
Projects
LoRa flood-warning nodeSTM32, LoRa, solar power. Water-level alerts over 3 km with 98% packet delivery in field tests.

What to write when you have no job yet

A fresher resume is not empty; it is built from different material. For a B.Tech ECE, the material is this, each line with a number:

  • An embedded internship with the microcontroller, the firmware you wrote and the units deployed.
  • A testing internship with the test cases automated and the defects logged.
  • A hardware project with a PCB you designed and brought up.
  • A hackathon rank or a robotics competition with the team size.

Skills, with the proof that makes each one credible

A skill you cannot defend in the interview is worse than one you leave off. Each of these is listed with what proves it.

Embedded C
A microcontroller by name and the firmware you shipped on it.
Communication protocols
UART, I2C, SPI, CAN or LoRa with a driver or a link you made work.
PCB design
KiCad or Altium with a board that worked without rework, counted.
Python and MATLAB
Test automation or signal processing with a stated outcome.
Verilog or VLSI
An FPGA project with the board and the function verified.

The Indian details other builders skip

Marksheets, objectives, the declaration block, the credential a shortlist is actually built on. For a B.Tech ECE:

CGPA or percentage
Print CGPA: "B.Tech ECE, CGPA 8.7/10". Semiconductor and core electronics companies filter high, often 7.5; software service companies filter at 6.0 to 6.5. Class XII percentage beneath.
The career objective
“B.Tech ECE graduate with an embedded internship that shipped STM32 firmware on 20 deployed units and a testing internship that automated 300 cases, seeking an embedded or testing engineer role.”
The credential that gates the shortlist
NPTEL Elite certificates in embedded systems or VLSI are recognised by core companies; GATE EC opens PSUs and goes in Education. For the software door, the credential is a deployed project with a link.
What to leave off
Leave off father's name, date of birth, marital status, religion, caste, nationality and a photo unless the posting asks for one. None of it helps a shortlist and some of it invites bias. Drop the declaration block and the signature line too: a PDF sent from your own email is already yours. Keep the page to name, phone, email, city and one link.
Campus drive or off-campus
For a campus drive, lead with the degree, marks and projects; the recruiter is comparing you to classmates and reads the page in twenty seconds. For an off-campus or Naukri application, move the internship and the role-specific skills up, match the posting's words, and set your Naukri headline to the role you want, not the degree you hold. The free Naukri profile maker writes that headline from this resume.

Common questions

Should an ECE fresher apply for software roles?

Yes if the projects support it. Keep one or two software projects with links on the page and the header title honest about your preference.

How much hardware detail is too much?

Name the chip, the protocol and the result. Register-level detail belongs in the interview, not the resume.
