Mechanical engineering fresher resume format

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering

Graduate Engineer Trainee is the most applied-for title in Indian manufacturing, and the shortlist comes down to three things: a plant or design internship with a result, CAD you can prove, and a project with a number. This format puts the internship first and names the tools by version.

What to write when you have no job yet

A fresher resume is not empty; it is built from different material. For a B.Tech Mechanical, the material is this, each line with a number:

  • A plant internship, even six weeks, with a time study, a fixture change or a 5S result you can put a number on.
  • A design internship with the count of components modelled and the drawings released.
  • BAJA, SUPRA, Formula Student or a robotics team, with your role, the budget and the rank.
  • The final-year project written as a result: accuracy achieved, mass cut, cost saved.

Skills, with the proof that makes each one credible

A skill you cannot defend in the interview is worse than one you leave off. Each of these is listed with what proves it.

SolidWorks or CATIA
Components modelled and drawings released, with GD&T if you applied it.
AutoCAD
2D drawings for a real assembly, counted.
ANSYS or FEA
One analysis with the result: mass, stress or safety factor.
Manufacturing processes
Machines you ran or studied on a shop floor, with a cycle-time or OEE figure.
Lean and 5S
An audit score or a changeover time you helped move.

The Indian details other builders skip

Marksheets, objectives, the declaration block, the credential a shortlist is actually built on. For a B.Tech Mechanical:

CGPA or percentage
Print CGPA: "B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, CGPA 8.1/10". Core companies and PSUs use cut-offs between 6.0 and 7.5, and GATE scores are read by PSUs, so add a GATE score line if you have one. Class XII percentage goes beneath.
The career objective
“B.Tech Mechanical graduate with a plant internship that cut a fixture's cycle time 18% and a design internship that released 30 GD&T drawings, seeking a graduate engineer trainee role in production or design.”
The credential that gates the shortlist
A CSWA (SolidWorks) or Autodesk certificate is the recognised CAD credential; a Six Sigma Yellow Belt is the recognised process one. GATE ME qualification opens PSUs and goes in Education. List them with years.
What to leave off
Leave off father's name, date of birth, marital status, religion, caste, nationality and a photo unless the posting asks for one. None of it helps a shortlist and some of it invites bias. Drop the declaration block and the signature line too: a PDF sent from your own email is already yours. Keep the page to name, phone, email, city and one link.
Campus drive or off-campus
For a campus drive, lead with the degree, marks and projects; the recruiter is comparing you to classmates and reads the page in twenty seconds. For an off-campus or Naukri application, move the internship and the role-specific skills up, match the posting's words, and set your Naukri headline to the role you want, not the degree you hold. The free Naukri profile maker writes that headline from this resume.

Common questions

Is a BAJA or Formula Student team worth a whole section?

It is worth an experience entry, not a section: your role, the team size, the budget and the rank. Recruiters value it because it is the closest thing to a job a mechanical student can show.

Should I list core subjects?

One details line with four or five that match the role: Machine Design, Manufacturing Processes, Thermodynamics, CAD/CAM. A full syllabus reads as padding.
